I regret that I loved Bangalore

I truly regret to have faced such a situation in Bangalore; which has been my home for the past 8 long years. I know the roads of Bangalore more than what I know of Kolkata; my native. To encounter such an incident in BTM Layout(the so called POSH RESIDENTIAL AREA) where we have been staying for the past 4 years; left me dumbfounded.
On Sunday March 1st 2009, I had been to St. John's Hospital in the morning. I WAS NOT WELL. I am stressing on it as to remind that I wasnt drunk nor had been to pub etc; so hopefully no controversies on that. I was with my HUSBAND. The hospital OPD was unfortunately closed so we were returning home.
We returned to BTM.My husband had to withdraw cash so as he was waiting in the queue, I was waiting in the roadside parking lot in my kinetic flyte. Suddenly a Tata Innova which was standing beside me started backing without any honk nor any warning signal that it was backing. Before I could react the car was on me. I could not move as I was on my bike. It kept on coming back as he was talking over phone and couldnt hear me asking him to stop. At last, the others on the road asked him to stop backing. By that time I was already badly hurt as my bike had fallen on my leg and I couldnt get up unless he stopped his car.
My husband came to my rescue and he told them that they should have honked or looked back before backing the car. Two rowdies or I dont know who (dressed in white shirt and white pant with RED TIKA; typically looked like some political goons; but I have no clue who they were) came and started blasting Souvik(my hubby). I went there and they started abusing me in Telugu. Unfortunately I understand Telugu(thanks to Oxford) and I could understand what exactly were they saying. I retaliated and all of a blue moon they suddenly gave one punch to Souvik and then blows started on both of us with around 20 - 25 onlookers. To my surprise nobody out there supported us inspite of knowing that they were wrong and seeing us getting beaten. They felt hitting me a girl wasnt wrong but me protesting (when I was the person concerned who actually got affected) as a severe sin. Ultimately after receiving several blows in the middle of the street at around "10 AM IN THE MORNING"; we literally had to run away as the crowd said that it was a great mistake on our part to protest against them as they are BIG SHOTS(dont know how). So we felt wise to run for our lives as just the two of us couldnt have done much. Just to remind our residence and all our friends' place was just 2 - 3 min away from the place of this incident.
I dont want justice as I know it will not happen. I couldnt note down the car's no. It wasnt a situation where I had the liberty to do so. I just want people to know and thus create the awareness as to the state of Bangalore. I really love this place as this is where I grew up from an adolescent to an adult. But I never thought in my wildest nightmares that such a thing could ever happen in such a situation.

Christmas Trip to Bekal, Kerala

To change our usual destination of Gokarn for our Christmas Vacation; this time we chose Bekal, Kerala; a rather unusual location.
Khilli was late n I was literally fuming. But all started well when we took KSRTC Rajahamsa from Shanthinagar BusStand at 8:30 pm. It took us around 11 hrs to reach Kasargod. We then took a local bus to Kanhangad(pronounce as Kanyangad).
The hotel Bekal International was quite decent. After a quick Idly bite (n Pappai ice cream for me) we headed for The Beach. A huge prob was communication as these guys really dont understand anything other than Malayalam. So the auto took us to Bekal Fort. The group was rarely interested for a barren fort. To mention this is the most intact fort in Kerala. We did get a small rocky beach surrounding the fort but that was not a beach where we could take bath. I collected a very strange type of green shell. After lots n lots of query we reached Bekal beach or Pallikere beach. The virgin beach was very very calm and clean. On the beach there were live Starfish, tiny Crabs and some molluscs inside spiral shells. Food in our hotel was also best in the entire trip. In the evening we had dinner in some Malanad hotel(not so good).
Day 2 we took a Sumo to Kannur n etc. First we reached St. Angelo s Fort in Kannur. Good stuff. Next destination was Muzhappilangad beach; its a drive in beach. As usual this too was our private beach and water being cleaner and less saltier than the previous one. You surely cant miss the expression on our driver s face when we asked him to start our car without langto n bhuri. They were picked up on the beach itself. The third place was Dharmadam island. The very rare thing bout this island is that it can be reached by crossing the sea by walk. It surely was a very different experience. The island was small with heavy vegetation. That n fear of high tide later prevented us from venturing too much inside the forests. The fourth destination for the day was Mahe, Puducherry or Pondicherry. This was a lttle of disappointment as we didnt get proper food(SEAFOOD to be precise). But as per info booze was really abundant. Tried our luck for good dinner at Kannur but sadly couldnt find any. So back in our hotel we had ordinary but satisfying dinner.
Day 3 was spent lazying for most part. As usual we went to Bekal beach; but couldnt take bath to our heart s content as there was a very responsible coast guard taking too good care of us. To add to it there were quite a no of families that spoiled the feeling of private beach. Nonetheless it was good. Back to hotel we had Malabar biriyani(Pritam might debate on that). After some rest we left the hotel at around 6:30 pm i guess. Reached Kanhangad bus station n boarded a bus to Kasargod. The bus started after a wait of 25 mins at 7:30pm. Then started the "race against time". Inspite of the bus racing at approx 80kmph we roamed almost the whole of Kerala in NH7 and reached Kasargod at 8:30pm. Just to mention our bus to Bangalore was at 8:30pm from some Kasargod new bus station. We frantically started searching for our bus. Some guy at last came to our rescue and directed to the busstand. We all took a deep breath after boarding the bus. Reached Bangalore at 7:30am.
Some trivias: The group consisted of Kanu, Dhali, Tan, Langto, Bhuri, Pritam, Khilli and myself(Mini).
Trivia 2: We had taken an auto to Malanad hotel at late hour. We asked him how much would it cost. Reply: 10 rupees. Kanu mentioned showing the figures that they were 5. The surprised auto driver said it still remains 10.... Should have taken a video n should to our great autodrivers in Bangalore.
Trivia 3: Some 8 Jahangir or Amritti from some shop in Kannur and paid for the same.. I then asked for a 50gm piece of cashew halwa. It was 180 rs/kg. To my astonishment it was offered free!!!
Trivia 4: Kanu had left his "priceless" diary in the Sumo we had taken for hire. The hotel owner asked for our address so that he could mail us the same.
I found these facts worth mentioning as the people out there are really really sweet. Trust me. ;)

Durga Puja

Durga Puja - some thing that I believe all Bongs looks forward to. We might not have a same approach towards it but still it means a lot.
I think many of us will be able to relate quite a lot to my story. It has many sweet memories attached to it.
As a kid Durga puja was more of the no of dresses I got.I must have a dress for every day and even better if two-one for morning & the other for evening. Its more of showing off the wardrobe as I can now say.
After that age came a time when Durga puja was all about flirting and enjoying with friends and friend of friends. Its always better to see new faces to flirt with !Then goes the Phuchkas and chats and rolls etc.....quite a list actually.
And now for us with all the initial part still alive it is more of going home after the long hectic hours slogging in office for the whole year.It is a now a different meaning all together. Meeting all the aunties and their typical "o ma koto boro hoe gechish re!" ;meeting old friends after years together. Some other time its a planned meeting of all the friends who stay at different parts of India and sometimes the world(keeping all those doing GRE or GMAT and the obvious onsite s). Parents who wait all the year just to spend some time with us. With lots of expectations and apprehensions here we come Kolkata to have a rocking time.
